内容説明
Although "Rock Mechanics for Underground Mining" addresses many of the rock mechanics issues arising in underground engineering, it is not exclusively a text for mining applications. It consists of four general sections: General engineering applications relevant to rock mechanics; mechanical properties of rock and rock masses; underground excavation design and design of various types and associated components of a mine structure; topics related to rock mechanics practice. Throughout the text, and particularly in those sections concerned with excavation design and design of a mine structure, reference is made to computational methods for analysis of stress and displacement in a rock mass. The principles of various computational schemes, such as boundary element, finite element and distinct element methods, are introduced. This new edition has been completely revised to take account of developments in the understanding of fundamental modes of deformation, failure and stability of rock under conditions where stress is high in relation to rock strength and also changes in underground engineering practice.
Based on professional, research and teaching experience, this book provides a comprehensive text for senior undergraduate and beginning graduate students. As well as mining and geological engineers, it should be of interest to civil engineers, structural geologists and geophysicists as a standard work for professional reference purposes.
