内容説明

This collection of papers is derived from a conference held by the International Union for the Scientific Study of Populations. The papers are a combination of original and detailed work on some aspects, and a general review of research so far in other areas. The book is wide-ranging, and explores a variety of ways in which the position of women in a culture affects, or is itself affected by, demographic patterns of population change. In particular many of the papers are concerned with the links between the changing position of women in many cultures and the demographic transition to a situation of low birth and death rates.
