The completion of the Single European Market and the start of the European Community's Third Medium Term Action Programme on Equal Opportunities has prompted the EOC to review the position of men and women in a broader context in this report for 1992. A comparison of gender equality between Britain and other EC member states is given as well as analyses of a series of important issues under five broad themes: macro-economic context; the integration of women into the labour market; women and the law; earnings and gender; and improving the status of women in society. The report will play a valuable role in informing the debate about gender equality in Britain.
