Description
Most learners of English can be found in monolingual classes - classes where students share a common language other than English. These classes have their own special characteristics, and approaches which work well with multilingual groups of students are not always so successful with monolingual groups. This book shows how teachers can turn monolingual situations to best advantage and how they can successfully use modern communicative methods which incorporate selective and limited use of the students' L1. It includes sections on presenting and practising new language, pair and group work, translation activities and progress inside and outside the classroom, and ends with a section on the classroom English that teachers and students should be using.
