内容説明
During the past five years questions of ethics in international affairs have generated increasing interest. There have, however, been relatively few attempts to relate the ethical issues to specific foreign policy questions. Ethics and foreign policy sets out to remedy this lack with a collection of chapters probing the moral questions raised by the conduct of Australia's foreign policy. These issues canvassed also have a far broader conceptual and policy relevance. Topics examined include the concept of good international citizenship; the possibility of establishing a universal ethic for determining the moral criteria which may guide statescraft; the moral acceptability of military and other forms of intervention; the forces which may constrain realization of an ethical foreign policy; refugees; the provision of foreign aid; the recognition of particular regimes; the Antarctic and environmental issues. The final chapter discusses the essential requirements of an ethical foreign policy. This wide-ranging study is aimed at all those with an interest in Australian foreign policy and ethical issues in international affairs.
