Description

This book suggests alternative strategies for dealing with people over the age of 75. On the basis of five types of support network, the author uses quantative and qualitative longitudinal data to show how the availability and sources of help depend on factors beyond the control of the individual - family fertility levels. birth order, marriage chances and migration patterns. These factors determine the membership of the support network available to old age. The book draws attention to the significance of variation in network type and distribution of network type, and examines the implications for service planning and care management.
