This dictionary provides definitions of the words, names and phrases most frequently found in discussions of AIDS and HIV. Approximately 1100 entries include abbreviations and acronyms, such as CBO (community-based organization) and CMV (cytomegalovirus); historical terms, such as gay-related immune deficiency (GRID) and human T cell leukemic-lymphoma virus-III (HTLV-III); key names, such as Gallo, Montagnier and Sonnabend; medical terminology, such as cryptosporidiosis and toxoplasmosis; and AIDS-specific sources of information, such as the AIDS-Knowledge Base, AIDSLINE and the National AIDS Information Clearinghouse. Abbreviations, acronyms and vernacular are cross-referenced to the main entry.
