内容説明

The bacilli have had a long history in terms of their utilization in basic research and for the production of useful industrial products. The ability of many bacilli to withstand high temperatures, the absence of deleterious metabolic side-products and their ability to produce large amounts of extracellular proteins have made bacilli a favourite organism for industrial use. This work discusses the recent advances in understanding gene expression which are opening new avenues for using the bacilli as organisms for research as well as for industrial purposes.

目次

  • What is a bacillus?
  • germination
  • transcriptional regulation of gene expression
  • heterologous gene expression
  • control of post-exponential gene expression by transition state regulators
  • molecular cloning
  • protein export and development of secretion vectors
  • extracellular enzymes
  • bacterial insect toxins
  • development of genetic engineering in bacillus megaterium - an example of the versatility and potential of industrially important bacilli
  • production of commercially valuable products (a summary).
