The home is traditionally the woman's domain. Here seven English country houses have been chosen to demonstrate how women's lives, over 400 years, show the wide range of their responsibilities, amusements and achievements. The women, their backgrounds and their houses are all very different, but all have fascinating histories, mostly based on original materials from family and local archives, much never before published. The experiences of these seven women are reflected in their houses as their stories unfold.
