内容説明

The successful use of concrete is often difficult in hot climates due to the poor quality and limited supplies of aggregates and cements, lack of skilled labour and the need for good supervision. The most demanding requirement is placed on concrete by the environment itself, by large temperature changes, highly aggressive soils and severe atmospheric conditions. Designing, specifying and making durable concrete is therefore extremely difficult, yet is vital for successful development in many regions and countries. This book provides a review of current research and practice from many parts of the world on the exceptionally difficult practical and technical problems of concrete construction in hot climates. Information on new materials and durability studies as well as case studies and practical experience are included, such as curing, evaporation and other vital but poorly understood aspects of concrete technology.

目次

  • Part 1 Environment: the effect of increased temperature on fresh and hardened concrete
  • evaporation of surface moisture - a problem in concrete technology and human physiology
  • estimation of evaporation from concrete surfaces
  • experimental study of the effect of ambient conditions on temperatures inside mortar specimens. Part 2 Performance: influence of initial curing temperature on concrete performance in very hot arid climates
  • influence of temperature, drying and curing method on properties of high strength concrete
  • effect of evaporation of water from fresh concrete in hot climates on the properties of concrete
  • strength development and microstructure of cement and concrete pre-cooled with liquid nitrogen
  • the influence of high temperature on the strength and pore structure of concretes made with a natural pozzolan
  • performance properties of pozzolanic mortars cured in hot dry environments
  • performance of slag concrete in hot climates
  • thermal restraint in reinforced concrete walls at normal and hot weather conditions
  • life prediction of reinforced concrete structures in hot and salt-laden environments. Part 3 Construction in hot climates: quality assurance/quality control for concrete in hot climates
  • problems of unsupervised quality control in ready-mixed concrete plants in Saudi
  • the selection of hydraulic cements to satisfy the requirements for concrete construction in hot climates
  • performance evaluation of curing membranes
  • durability of concrete in hot climates - benefits from permeable formwork
  • the manufacture of precast concrete counterweight units for the Sukkur Barrage, Pakistan
  • durability aspects of the King Fahd Causeway.
