To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the American Vacuum Society, AIP is reprinting some publications on vacuum technology from the last four decades which continue to have significance in the field. These volumes make up the "AVI Classics" series. This particular volume in the series is for those involved in vacuum technology and complex vacuum facilities. While specific projects have changed since this book was first published, the need for large complex vacuum facilities has not. Despite new developments in pumping, measurement and outgassing, this book is still relevant today.
