Description and Table of Contents

Description

In this book, four experts explore the causes and consequences of contemporary migration. They devote separate chapters to immigration challenges in Canada and the United States, in European Community countries, and in Japan. It is in European Community countries in particular that immigration has become an issue of high politics. According to the authors, the core difficulty is that Europe has become chosen to be one of the favourite places to which people wish to come. These chapters are followed by a chapter on changing approaches to refugees, using the cases of Iraq, Cambodia, Haiti, and the former Yugoslavia.
