This volume contains a number of the author's articles which were published in leading economic journals over the period 1968-1990. In the first 12 articles, he attacks various neo-classical parables, demonstrates their logical weaknesses and challenges the validity of their assumptions and conclusions. His work frequently cites arguments made by Joan Robinson and Pierro Sraffa. In the second half of the text, he discusses development issues such as project planning and project selection, production relations, class relations, high interest rates on private loans, the introduction of new technology - all in the context of backward agriculture and permanent dependence on foreign borrowing. His analysis depends on highly schematized models which, though unrealistic, serve to sharpen the issues discussed.
