内容説明
Autumn 1991 saw the conjunction of the "Pop Art Show" at the Royal Academy of Arts and the exhibition "Objects for the Ideal Home: the Legacy of Pop Art" at the Serpentine Gallery, London. Reporting on this unique occurrence, "Art and Design" has drawn material from the Pop Symposium set up by the Royal Academy and the Serpentine in order to discuss the common ground between these two shows. Featured are a series of interviews between major artists and critics, including from the 1960s, James Rosenquist and Constance Glenn, Richard Hamilton and Richard Cork, George Segal and Andrew Graham-Dixon, Allen Jones and Marco Livingstone; with Matthew Collings' interview with Jeff Koons, representing the younger 1980s generation. With a resume by Dan Cameron which provides a historical bridge between these two generations, an open discussion chaired by Marco Livingston, and an additional essay on British Pop Art by Michael Compton, this issue brings to light a considerable amount of new historical material as well as a sharper focus on the definitional problems of Pop.
