Dallas Smythe, who died in September 1992, is generally credited with founding the political economy of communication. A scholar, teacher, consultant and activist, he participated in major policy developments in broadcasting and telecommunications in the United States, Canada and beyond. His insistence on action and implementation found expression in a number of powerful papers and speeches which he himself neglected to publish. This book brings together Smythe's seminal works. These papers and talks read more like insights for today's communications world than contributions towards the thoughts of the past.
