内容説明
The first public sector ombudsman in the UK came into existence some 25 years ago but, despite this, there is still a great deal of uncertainty about the role, and few readily accessible sources of information about the work. This book describes and evaluates the work of the three ombudsmen in the public sector in England: the Parliamentary Commissioner for Administration, The Health Service Commissioner and the Commissioner for Local Administration. Mary Seneviratne looks at the rationale for the introduction of ombudsmen into the public sector, and examines and evaluates their roles, looking at procedures, powers and jurisdiction. Although ombudsmen were introduced primarily to redress individual grievances, the author suggests that they should play a wider role in encouraging good administrative practice.
