This introduction to the 1991 Census of population covers all aspects of census activities, from enumeration and data collection through to recent forms of output available to researchers for analysis. It explains the geography of the census and includes a discussion of developments over time. Separate chapters provide comprehensive information on each of the various forms of output from the census, and also contact points to obtain further information. In addition, the guide provides a discussion of the historical background to census-taking and gives a consideration of the ethical and confidentiality issues that surround data collected under statute.
