This is a new collection of estate poems of the 17th century. Reproduced mainly in their entirety, the poems include ten from Mildmay Fane's manuscripts. Besides the texts, Professor Fowler includes full notes explaining difficult passages, and relating them to their biographical, social and political contexts. There is a substantial introduction, a comprehensive bibliography, and a listing of visual sources. Containing evidence for architectural and art-historians as well as for literature scholars, this collection should clarify the estate poem genre.
