Description and Table of Contents

Description

Provides a detailed account of recent advances in the theoretical study of the mechanical behaviour of highly nonhomogeneous composite materials and structural elements distinguished by a regular structure. Materials and elements of this type are becoming increasingly important in mechanical and civil engineering, aviation rocketry, shipbuilding and other fields. The authors emphasize their own results in regards to the theory of elasticity as well as in coupled field mechanics (thermoelasticity and electroelasticity) of composites. They also discuss constructing general homogenized models for composite materials and reinforced plates and shells. Background material, such as the basic concepts of the mechanics of nonhomogeneous anisotropic media and the mathematical formalism of the asymtotic homogenization method, is provided as well.
