内容説明
At a time when the incidence of homelessness, AIDS, drug addiction and other social problems continue to increase throughout the USA, the country's health care system faces a deepening financial crisis. While these trends affect everyone, many groups are confronting disproportionate risks of poor health and inadequate medical care. The author has undertaken research on vulnerable populations, and in this text she presents the characteristics and needs of many at-risk groups in America today - including the homeless, refugees and immigrants, people suffering from AIDS, alcohol and substance abusers, high-risk mothers and infants, victims of family or other violence, and the chronically or mentally ill. For all high-risk groups, Aday provides: a framework for identifying and studying vulnerable populations; data on their needs and on the trends occurring in these populations; an analysis of the issues regarding the access, cost and quality of their care; a review of policies and programs developed to address their needs; and a discussion of research and policy initiatives to reduce this vulnerability.
