This is an analysis of the development of law, legal institutions and the legal profession in socialist Cuba since the 1959 revolution, and an evaluation of their impacts on contemporary Cuban society. The author focuses on recent developments, including the 1992 modifications to the Cuba constitution, changes in economic law as a result of the disappearance of the socialist market, and the modernization of both the criminal justice and judicial systems. She also examines current developments in law with respect to equality, property, the family, economics, and criminal justice.
