Description

Power electronic devices, diodes, thyristors, GTOs, BJITs, and FETs have had a tremendous effect on the transformation and utilization of electric power. "Rectifiers, Cycloconverters and A.C. Controllers" is a quantitative study of those circuits using these devices which are supplied by a standard a.c. system. In such circuits the power electronic devices must turn on current at a precise instant and must keep off current which has already been made zero by the a.c. system. Such circuits are called naturally commuatated and are the subject of detailed quantitative study. With appropriate selection of material, the text can be used at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and professional levels. All aspects of the material are illustrated by numerical examples and by graphs of waveforms and performance characteristics derived from those examples. Prerequisite requirements are trivial, the ability to formulate circuit equation using Kirchoff's laws, to apply the Superposition Theorem and standard a.c. and d.c. circuit theory and to solve ordinary differential equations of first and second order.
