内容説明
A study of language change in an urban environment, this book is one of the "Exeter Linguistic" series, and it is devoted to the English language in the Exeter area. It is an interdisciplinary addition to the literature on urban regional speech, which presents ideas formed by applying modern sociolinguistic research techniques. "Sound Change in Progress" should be of interest to linguists specializing in English, and to teachers and others concerned with and about communication across local, social and generational boaundaries. Anthea Sullivan was a postgraduate student in linguistics at the University of Exeter, and won a distinction for the dissertation on which this book is based.
