This bibliographical guide covers a selection of 5000 of the most important books and articles on British archaeology. Ranging from the Palaeolithic to 19th-century industrial archaeology in Great Britain and Ireland, the bibliography presents the reference in a clear, classified format, with each period subdivided for easy reference. For each period covered, the bibliography is divided into standard sections that cover general works, chronology, environment, settlements, religious and industrial sites, economics, artefacts and art. Syntheses of a more general nature are also included in an early section of the bibliography, together with works on methodology and the history of British archaeology. Additionally, the many descriptive annotations to the entries give a clear indication of the contents of the works selected.
