This handbook is a practical guide to anaesthesia and pain relief in emergency medicine. It contains instructions and checklists which cover common situations, such as provision of local and general anaesthesia, sedation and analgesia. Patients commonly come to the accident and emergency (A&E) department with pain problems or with conditions requiring local or general anaesthesia. Close co-operation between the staff of the anaesthesia and A&E departments is required if anaesthesia and analgesia are to be dealt with efficiently and safely.
