内容説明
The purpose of this book is to provide the reader with a detailed understanding of the role of Boundary Element Methods (BEM) in the numerical analysis of problems in geomechanics. The success that these techniques have enjoyed stems from their ability to satisfy, automatically the "far-field" boundary conditions associated with media of infinite or semi-infinite extent. This edited monograph consists of 15 chapters on the application of BEM techniques to geomechanics contributed by experts in their respective areas. The contents of the book are arranged broadly in three sections. The first four chapters provide an introduction and include a comprehensive literature review and description of the computer implementation aspects. Chapters Five to Nine are concerned with a detailed analysis of the application of BEM to basic geomechanical problems such as strip foundations, three dimensional foundations. single piles and pile groups, groundwater flow and rock mechanics. Each chapter contains examples of the pertinent methodology and comparisons with other numerical methods.
The final section focuses on specialized topics such as wave propagation through ground due to seismicity or to man-related causes, soil-fluid-structure interaction as applied to liquid-filled flexible storage tanks and dams and hydraulic fracturing techniques using fluid injections for oil recovery. This book should be of particular interest to civil engineers, earthquake and seismic engineer's interested in gaining an understanding of the latest developments in this fast moving field.
