This text proposes that the 15th-century pictorial cycles on the walls of the Sistine Chapel encode the text and themes of the Lenten and Easter liturgies celebrated in the papal chapel. It puts forward the hypothesis that the decoration of the chapel was part of an evolving ensemble.
