An analysis of the evolution of the political dimension to Middle East oil in recent years, containing contributions from oilmen, diplomats, government officials, and scholars from Europe, the Middle East, North America and Japan, who comprise the Royaumont Group. The work assesses current Middle East stability, security following the Gulf Cooperation Council and the particular positions of Syria, Iraq, Algeria and Israel; analyzes Soviet policy in the Middle East from 1942-1992; assesses the discussions of the Royaumont Group from 1985-93 in their analysis of the development of Middle East oil politics and strategy over this period; and analyzes the historical, social and cultural dimensions to Middle East oil politics in the late 80s and early 90s. It also provides a chronology of events and key economic and oil statistics for the region in the period of 1985 to 1992.
