Description
This atlas presents the latest political picture. In addition to the new nations of the former USSR and the countries that have been formed from the break up of Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia, the book now show the newly independent state of Eritrea in Africa. This new nation split from Ethiopia in 1993. There are 76 pages of up-to-date mapping. All major city names are given first in their English form for easy reference. A 40-page section gives a country-by-country guide to all the world's independent countries. Each country has statistical information (size, population, capital city, languages and religions), the national flag and a short text. There is also an illustrated four-page guide to the highest mountains, longest rivers, largest cities, oceans, seas, islands and continents.
