Written with an awareness of the interactivity of ideology, rhetoric and historical accounts, this book aims to bring the rhetorical canon under the microscope in its capacity as social advocacy. Taking the stance that certain classical rhetorics contain social significance, the contributors also provide reflexivity as they reveal their own backgrounds as scholars and historians of rhetoric. Each is conscious of encoding values and allegiances in historical accounts that themselves become rhetorical constructs.
