Description
This work offers A to Z information on the political struggle that has dominated East-West relations since 1945 and which, until the last few years, has seemed irrevocable. The rivalry between the superpowers is delineated, particularly in terms of the potential effects of thermonuclear weapons. At the same time, the book also explores the way in which the balance of power has been affected by events in the Eastern Bloc in recent years. Nearly 1000 entries identify and determine all terms, names, events and concepts important to the history of the Cold War and the course of this conflict is traced from 1945 to the crumbling of the Berlin Wall in November, 1989, and beyond. Major figures, treaties, agreements, organizations, weapons, strategies and places are all included.
