This book examines the immune response induced by different infectious agents and the effects of vaccinations against those agents. It discusses the role of antibodies and T-cell responses in controlling and clearing some viral, bacterial and parasitic infections, such as AIDS and malaria. Four chapters in the book are devoted to the latest information and ideas regarding the roles of CD8+CTLs and CD4+TH1 and TH2 cell populations. Other topics covered include the importance of the antigen dose, the roles of different adjuvents, and various methods of adjuvent presentation.
