A work of reference which performs as a comprehensive survey of textile art and production around the world, dating from prehistory to the present day. Subjects include costumes, period interiors, and archive photographs; also a variety of fabrics ranging from the simplest handwoven cloth to rich brocades and intricate embroidery. The book begins with an illustrated section explaining the techniques and terminology of making and decorating textiles of all types, including weaving, tapestry, embroidery, lace, dyeing and printing, knitting, netting, felt and bark cloth.
