Description

This is a new edition of a long-established reference that has served as an international standard for diagnosis of hepatobiliary diseases. Thoroughly revised to reflect recent developments in diagnostic technology, medical therapy, and transplant surgery, it provides current, internationally accepted nomenclature and diagnostic and prognostic criteria. It represents the consensus of more than 100 authorities on information science, adult and paediatric hepatology, liver transplant surgery, vascular and biliary surgery, radiology, pathology, infectious diseases, immunology, and genetics. Each disease is characterized as to definition; clinical, laboratory, radiologic, morphologic, and etiologic criteria for diagnosis; and prognosis. Emphasis is placed on new techniques for determining the influence of various therapeutic modalities on prognosis. Where appropriate, the text gives prognostic criteria in order to assist clinicians in the proper timing of liver transplantation.
