Potential solutions to these problems are described, with analysis of the downside in funding terms of the solutions. The book summarizes the position of equal treatment in pensions schemes. It also examines important topics related to harmonization of benefits, including retirement ages, the difficulties in introducing equal treatment, EC legislation, race discrimination, benefits and contributions and also age discrimination. The report looks into the issues involved in the "Barber" case and the judgment given by the European court of Justice in this and subsequently in "Coloroll".
