内容説明

Stress is present in all professions; stress-related diseases, such as heart disease, anxiety, depression, and alcohol and drug use, are well documented. Yet surprisingly little has been written about the profession that has often to deal with the end results of stress - doctors. This book examines stress in general practitioners in the United Kingdom - the doctors in the front-line of medical care in a rapidly changing society. As well as being a thorough overview of stress in the medical profession in general, it includes the results of a unique survey of over 1800 GPs. Together with a wealth of quantitative results, there are face-to-face interviews that provide a fascinating insight into the stresses of the modern GP. Practical advice on how GPs can manage stress is also provided. This book should be of interest to general practitioners, and to those other specialities in the medical profession where stress plays a significant part. It should also be of use to others, such as psychiatrists and psychologists, involved in the study of occupational stress.
