This elementary algebra text presents explanations to promote conceptual understanding over the repeated application of algorithms. Understanding is stressed over computational skills and emphasis is placed on modelling, problem-solving, interpretation of graphs and the communication of mathematical ideas, under the auspices of the "spiral approach".
