Description
This book sets out clearly and authoritatively the problems facing those concerned with faculty recruitment, training, rewards and employment in higher education. Two main issues face institutions, national planners and faculty. In some areas of study and in some countries, large numbers of faculty recruited in the period of expansion in the 1960s and 1970s will leave, and their replacement will become and urgent matter. In most countries the average age of faculty has increased whilst recruitment of younger members of staff has been halted or delayed. A second set of problems will arise from the expansion to mass higher education which has occurred and still is most countries, together with the changing clientele and from expectations placed on higher education. As the range of student clients increases, so will the demands on faculty become more complex and multiple.
