The 2nd edition of this text summarizes the extensive literature in this field, concentrating on principles and methods rather than on particular empirical studies or organizational techniques. It covers scientific methodology and the role of the behavioural sciences in the analysis of organizations; conventional topics, such as motivation, groups and leadership theories; principles and methods for structuring organizations and recent developments (eg networking, core and peripheral workers) in the practice of organization design. It includes an account of the Japanese approach to management, and refers to research studies in the organisational behavioural area. This text updates and extends informaion on group behaviour and the development of psychometric testing, has a new section on culture and change, incorporates fresh material on attitudes, memory, power and the work ethic. It also includes a discussion of sex and race difference in relation to organizational behaviour, and focuses on key issues of organizational behaviour. It is aimed at students on BTEC Higher National Diploma and business studies degree courses; those taking exams of the ICSA, IAM, IMS and IPS.
