内容説明
This book draws on traditional sources, mainly but not exclusively Jewish, to address contemporary issues ranging from conservation of the environment, through the ethics of business and international commerce, to relations between State and religion. As well as social and political issues there are philosophical ones. What is the ultimate hope for people and how can we reconcile suffering and radical evil with traditional ideas of God? Jewish sources cited range from the Bible and Talmud to Codes, Bible commentaries and mystical and philosophical works. Israeli law and the special problems of the Jewish State are also considered. Christian theology of liberation, Islamic commercial law and Buddhist ideas on nature are amongst the resources of other religions. Throughout, special attention is given to the problem of method. How can we extrapolate from sources, such as the Bible and Talmud, written in worlds so different from our own, to the problems of our time?
