Based on an international conference held in 1993, this publication contains reviews of regional developments in assuring the quality of higher education in Europe and North America, Latin America, Australasia and Africa. It focuses on the accreditation and quality assurance arrangements in Chile, Denmark, Korea, New Zealand, Quebec, Rumania, Scotland, South Africa and in the United States. Other chapters focus on the mutual recognition of standards and qualifications in cross-border mobility schemes, educational franchising, and trans-national distance education. The contribution of international agencies, and some universal trends and issues in assuring the quality of tertiary education provision are also discussed.
