Description
This book tells the story of the Olympia Press and of Maurice Girodias, "Pornographer with heart", "Lenin of the Sexual Revolution" and publisher of books of exceptional quality which no-one else dared to handle. Titles such as: Henry Miller's "Tropic of Cancer" and "Tropic of Capricorn"; Vladimir Nabokov's "Lolita"; William Burrough's "THe Naked Lunch"; J.P. Donleavy"s "The Ginger Man"; and Terry Southern's "Candy". The text also includes an interview with the pseudonymous author of the clandestine bestseller, "The Story of Q". The fact that almost all of these publications led to flamboyant disputes, public rows, legal actions and literary feuds of unparalleled ferocity, only testifies to the fascination of Girodias's escapades. This account reveals an extraordinary egoist and a world on the point of change towards the sexual liberation of the 60s.
