During the past few years, broadband services and networks have moved from the realms of specialised research to new products in the market. B-ISDN networks based on ATM are now being deployed throughout Europe. Since multimedia applications are about to be installed on available workstations and personal computers, Integrated Broadband Communications, as foreseen in the objectives of the RACE Programme, is now nearing reality. Following earlier publications discussing the technical descriptions of the broadband testbeds and then methods of interconnecting them, this volume focuses on the important topic of connecting them to the end-user. Technical problems and their solutions are explored by a wide range of experts in the field, including network operators, service providers, multimedia application designers and, importantly, end-users themselves.
