内容説明

This book, written by a survivor, looks at the situation of Black women and incest, focusing on the costs of that survival and the strengths which sustain it. This is the culmination of Melba Wilson's long-held desire to write about an experience which has affected her and countless other women and children. She writes from the conviction that the taboo against speaking out must be broken, whilst debunking the myth that incest is the norm in Black communities. Voices of individual women, a discussion of incest in the autobiographical and fictional work of Black writers such as Maya Angelou, Alice Walker and Joan Riley, the dynamics of sex and sexual oppression in relation to gender, class and race - all are examined here.
