Description
Designed as a reference for exercise scientists, aquatics professionals and those interested in the relationship between body structure and athletic performance, this text contains analyses of a large sample of physique and performance data collected from leading athletes. The athletes were competing in the 6th World Championships in swimming, diving, synchronized swimming, and water polo, held in Perth, Western Australia in 1991. For each sport, the book details ages, body sizes, somotatypes, proportions and compositions of the competitors. The book also provides comparative analyses of the competitors by stroke and distance for swimming, by event for diving and sychronized swimming, by playing position for water polo, and by performance ranking for each of the aquatic sports studied. These analyses not only describe the differences between the best performers and others, but they also identify the optimal physique for success in each sport.
