Description
Treatment of dental caries was for many years synonymous with restorative therapy. The remarkable change in the intensity of this disease in the past decade or so has thrust nonoperative treatment or preventive treatment to the forefront of modern dentistry. The preventive approach requires a more profound understanding of the biological nature of dental caries than was needed when fillings were the only treatment technique available. This aspect of caries treatment is reflected in "Textbook of Clinical Cariology". Current research has yielded a better understanding of the disease, and all chapters have been critically reviewed and new chapters added to provide readers with a comprehensive and updated view of dental caries. New internationally recognized researchers have been invited to contribute with their particular expertise.
