内容説明
Using a strong theoretical framework, this volume explores basic aspects of industrial policies in the Pacific as well as discussing specific policies in Japan, the United States, South Korea, Taiwan, the ASEAN countries, and the PRC. Examining governmental measures and corporate strategies, the contributors assess their interactions and consider their significance within the context of regional economic cooperation initiatives sponsored by the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation forum. As nations negotiate reductions or threaten increases in their trade barriers, they tend to rely more heavily on industrial policies to enhance the competitiveness of their firms and to attract foreign direct investment. This trend is especially strong in the dynamic Asia Pacific region. Rivalry is becoming increasingly intense between the United States and Japan as the Clinton administration seeks to upgrade the technological strengths of U.S. enterprises to overcome advantages gained by Japanese corporations. Caught in the middle of this competition, East Asian countries are thus challenged from two directions.Within a strong theoretical framework, the contributors explore basic aspects of industrial policies in the Pacific as well as discuss specific policies in Japan, the United States, South Korea, Taiwan, the ASEAN countries, and the PRC.
