This publication contains up-to-date scientific information on the health effects of the Chernobyl accident, obtained from almost all the leading international and national organizations. The purpose of the Nagasaki symposium on Chernobyl was to present and discuss the available data from all over the world independent of psychological, social, economic, and political bias, and thus to make conclusions that would further medical science. To this end, the symposium consisted of two session: "Chernobyl Update" and "Chernobyl in the Future". Along with the proceedings of these two sessions, the proceedings of the Japan-NIS Chernobyl Thyroid Symposium, held in December 1993 are included in this book.
