The first, full historical treatment of Canadian-Japanese relations from their early beginnings in the 1870s to the present day. Professor Pringsheim has compiled an indispensable, detailed account of all the major economic and political issues which have arisen between these two countries. "Neighbours Across the Pacific" is based upon an extensive examination of documentary materials from Canada's Department of External Affairs in Ottawa, previously unavailable to scholars. Professor Pringsheim also conducted many personal interviews with diplomats and politicians in both Canada and Japan. This comprehensive study is of interest to all students of foreign relations and international trade and business as well as to Canadianists. Professor Klaus H.Pringsheim is a Professor of Political Science at McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. He is the author of numerous articles on Japanese politics and Chinese affairs.
