内容説明

The Manuleae plant group (fox-gloves), largely distributed in Africa, consists of 17 genera and 350 species. This study of the Manuleae, hitherto one of the least known tribes of Scrophulariaceae, describes each genus and species; informs of their habitats and distribution; and makes accurate identification possible. The work redefines genera, revealing important patterns of geographical distribution. In addition to taxonomy, the text considers biology; for example, it considers species from different genera and families which form floral guilds attractive to the same group of pollinators. Self-pollinating and fully cleistogamous flowers are also considered. This study reveals the Manuleae as an independent tribe of Scrophulariaceae, closely allied to Selagineae. The book should appeal to botanists as the standard classification of the tribe.
